The art of self-care
Working as a creative arts therapist often means receiving and holding others’ emotions.  It requires a solid capacity to remain present while witnessing and responding to the multifaceted shapes that pain and suffering can take.  This capacity is secured through reflection, supervision and conscious self-care practices.

The conversations with nurses that happened during the 28 HOMAGE workshops were rich and deep in terms of the feelings, emotions and memories that were expressed.

After each workshop, Marie Barincou systematically engaged in her own reflective practice.  Having attended and cared for individuals wellbeing who shared their emotions while making their individual paper mâché bowls, she integrated and released her own feelings through these watercolours.
